Web-build . Day 4 . 8/13

Image result for meme all about you

Day 4 Monday 8/13. What type of IDA (identity in a digital age) do you want to represent on a page you contribute? What elements need to be on the page? How will the navigation on that page work? How does the type of identity you’re interested in exploring emerge, evolve, and function? Your job is to sketch that page design and content (as a picture or with detailed descriptions) and talk about how it fits with what we discussed on Days 2 & 3 & comment on your peers’ posts to generate discussion.

  1. In a page that I would contribute, ideally, I’d like to represent the video game aspect of the topic.

As far as the elements on the page, or design of it, I would like it to be visually appealing to a gamer. That is, it should have images of video game controllers (even the retro ones). It should feature images of different games and not just of the main characters, but maybe game posters that include all the characters in the game. It should have these images on the outside margins of the page and in the center should be the main articles of all the findings that were/are being made on the topic.

When navigating the page, it’s important for there to be lots of click functions. What I mean is, for example, that when you click on a certain controller image, information on the system the controller belongs to pops up. It should be this way throughout so that the page can be fun to look into.

Identity in video games is a topic that is evolving every day. For example, in older video games, there weren’t females as main characters but in recent years, a game has come out where the main character is indeed a female. There are even more races being included in these modern games.

It fits with our days 2 and 3 discussions in that it is going to be an inclusive page. I want this video game page to include as much variety of video games that I can fit into it. This is to show that it is indeed important to realize that identities are complex and have many different parts to them.

    1. Priscilla,

Eventhough, I am not a gamer, the way you describe your page, it made curious to log into that page.

    2. Interesting! I actually never really noticed that there haven't really been female main characters.

Your page design sounds really fun! I think the pop-up idea is really interesting and makes the information a lot easier to access. Maybe having a hover option where all you do is place the mouse on an image and it can give you more information without changing the page. Like a little bubble that comes up. I don't know if I described that well enough but I hope you understand what I mean.

I really like the sketch of your digital identity in a web page which is giving the history of video gaming, and how there were lacking or having positive female roles in the gaming industry as well as giving out information of how far we have evolved in the gaming industry as far as being inclusive.

      Love the Sketch Priscilla!

  2. In a page that I would build I would like to represent the topic of multimodal, digital composition, which is what I've been researching for this class.

I'd like the page to include pictures and videos, which are, to name a few, aspects of multimodal/digital composition. I think the page should allow for several starting points, and be non-linear, as far as its organization. This will give the visitor the freedom to navigate the page, starting at any point that it interests them.

The topic of multimodal composition and digital literacy practices is a topic that is continuously expanding due the emergence of new technologies everyday, and this obviously has pedagogical implications for composition teachers.

As for how this fits in with our previous discussions, our page needs to have diversity and cover the wide spectrum that is digital identity in the 21st century.

    1. The idea of having multpile modes of entry to sight is in intriguing. It seems very similar to the drop-down menu I'm suggesting as a prerequisite to entering the site. While this may seem in opposition to the non-linear aspect you're recommending, it could constitute the user option to explore the site in a non-linear fashion.

    2. Karina,

Your page sounds interesting. I like your multimodal digital composition page I like that it includes pictures and videos, I speak for myself. since I am a visual person.

    3. I think the audience would definitely appreciate your non-linear approach. It gives them a little more control over what they choose to learn.

  4. The focus of my sub-topic is distraction in the digital age. Several of the pieces I’ve read discuss in great detail the way the behavior of digital users is modified because of the constant availability of new information. In sociological terms, the basic human needs to seek food and shelter have been supplanted the current need to be social and in tune with changing thoughts and occurrences. Digital users condition themselves into habitual task-switching because as they engage with digital media, they begin associated the physiology of new information with pleasure (quite correctly given neuroscience the brain releases dopamine every time human learn something new. It seems to me the best way to represent that is offering time pages on the website that forces a change in screen content regardless of whether the user is ready to move on.

I do not have the ability to draw on my PC, so to explain:
What I envision is an open menu where users of the site get to explore our interpretations of digital identity by assuming the identity they wish to explore. So, for example, if a user were to choose a distracted identity, they would select that in a drop down menu and then be able to access the site which will then respond in what we have pre-determined as a distracted style. Under distracted identity, user will have set times for going through activities (times which will not be enough to finish a given discourse) and grapple with the implications of the need for constant new information (the most obvious of which is the inability to master/absorb a specific topic or subject area).

The intent behind including this method of discourse-sifting is to persuade those inclined to switch tasks frequently because of our reliance, and consequent behavioral responses to, on technology.

  5. In a page that I would contribute to, I would write about feminist digital identity and what that means for a world that revolves so heavily around multi-media. I would organize the page in a very similar way to the way I plan to organize my own wiki. My categories would include: Definition of Digital Identity, Idealistic Visions of Femininity, The Effect Advertising, The Internet as a Tool of Revolution and Politics, Victim-blaming and Policing. Each of these categories would be written from a point of knowledge and would reference peer-reviewed articles. I would want my readers to be able to navigate the page without having to follow a linear path. If they wanted to click from one link to another each category would be understandable on its own. I would include visual examples such as video and pictures. If possible I would embed links within the writing that would lead to other resources.

    1. Ivonne,

I really like how you would like to sketch in a manner that is a wiki page but more engaging. Just like you said you are trying to make known issues that go through the digital identity today. I like how your ideas are known to not only have information of the current feminist matters, but you want to make it engaging by using pictures, links, and videos. Which you are taking it to a whole new level.

      Great job Ivonne!

    2. Ivonne, this sounds like a create and clean way to map out your ideas! I like the flow of your evolving topic you mentioned for your page.

  6. My page would consist of a career in a digital age, mainly because this is my area of work. The design system should be accessible and straightforward to navigate, with a bold subheading for different categories and subcategories, and colorful. Moreover, it should have a table of content where there are options to choose to create a resume if interested in a field of work. There should also be page templates at the bottom of the page so that the people can always go back to that page if needed. Also, the page should have links and a tab on the side for a dictionary in case the person needs to spell a word or look for a definition of a word. It should also have pictures and videos; sometimes people are visual learners. Moreover, if needed they should be able to save their work and resume when needed.

    1. I love your idea about the page template at the bottom. It makes things a lot easier than having to click through a bunch of things to go back to a particular page. The dictionary idea is essential. To improve on that, however, maybe we can already have specific definitions picked out? Since some words have so many meanings, leading them towards what we are trying to convey could be more helpful than just having them look it up in the dictionary. Our topics are very contextual so we need specific definitions. Neat ideas!

    2. Elizabeth,

I really like your ideas. I think when working on a website/page on identity it is very important to be inclusive. Your idea of also making it visual is great because you're correct, not everyone learns the same.

I love the idea of having a table of contents so that it will be easy to navigate to where you want to go without having to scroll for it like a mad-man. I also really like your idea of having a dictionary on the side. It's important for people to be able to look up certain words they don't understand well.

  7. My page would discuss the ways in which digital identities are created and how they are used within the LGBTQ community. From what I assume, it would reflect the Wiki page we each created on our topics. For one, I would talk about marginalization, racism, stereotypes, etc. I think we would probably have a separate page on that as an intro type thing since a lot of our topics deal with different forms of discrimination. If not, then I would introduce that and delve in further into how the LGBTQ, specifically, has been discriminated against. From there, I would talk about its effects on identity creation, both for the how the individual sees the self and how society sees the individual. After that, I would want to discuss how digital identities are oppressed and progressed digitally through microblogging and social media. Specifically, how individuals use digital media to participate in social activism.

The design of my page would be a screen showing the LGBTQ rainbow flag. From there, clicking upon a color from each stripe in the flag would lead you to different topics within my subject. For example, red would lead you into marginalization within digital media, orange would lead to microblogging, yellow to social media, green to activism, and so on. On each page, I would have a comments section so that individuals can participate in discussion, ask questions, and add to their digital identities. I would also include links to websites, article titles, and other media that could help individuals discover more about the topic.

    1. Rebecca,
The interaction portion of your page is a great idea! People need to have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions in a constructive way, which will result in enriching their digital identities.

  8. Within my page I wish to express the reason's why people become so addicted and or reliant on video games. With much research I have come to the conclusion that in order to understand one we need to understand the other. There was no one real reason behind peoples constant need or addiction to videos. The reason behind their play varied. Some were habitual players (played 12+ hours a week), and others were avid uses. The main connection was the relationship and connection to the MMORPG world and how it made them feel.

Those who wished to escape the stresses of life, were found having a basic relationship to the game with their avatar. Others, who were categorized as hard core gamers, had a pattern of mental issues and or disabilities. This lead them to connect with the avatar in a more personal level. Meaning, what they felt they were lacking within the real world, they found and projected in the gaming world.

My page would consist of a dark layout with avatar pictures in representation to the players. I would also like to layer the page with information, as I just explained, so the reader can understand there are many reasons for people validly play video games but their reliance and need for constant usage is based on mental/physical state as well as relaxation.

  9. A page in which I would like to contribute to would be what of which is easy to access and user friendly. The easy access would be in to have the organization of the page be neat and clear to navigate through. This could be done via tabs or links in order for the shared items not be scattered throughout the page. I think the way users would find it friendly is through the ability to create an avatar much like a Bitmoji (and expressice and personalized emoji). Based on what research suggest, the ability to manipulate an avatar will engage the users individually as well as through a digital community. The users will become more involved through the development of working thought an avatar. This page would have feedback in which users can communicate with each other easily based on common interests. In order to develop dialogue there can be themes of interests where users can develop ideas and voice their opinions.

    1. Michelle,

I really like that idea. It is very important to make it known to the public that digital identity is a thing, and not only a thing but a very important thing. I like how you want to make a user-friendly page where people can start developing that sense of identity within themselves and talk to topics related to them.

Overall, I like the idea of how you can start with them and then they can take it from there once they have gained the ideas and the technological know-how so they can move to a more complex side of their digital identity.

      Great analysis Michelle!

  10. Within my page, I would discuss the ways in which distal users give off impressions of who they are to their audience. I would also incorporate the reasons why a user shares in the digital world and how what a person shares on social media paints a picture or tells a story of who they are. Since I want readers to have a complete understanding of my sub topic, so I would include parts of essays that I’ve used to understand how a persons narrative can be told by social media.

As a background, I would like to focus on the reaction social media buttons, or at least something that correlates with the buttons. I believe that these buttons will be a great advantage in allowing site followers to realize the impact of reaction buttons in social media.

  11. http://engl6328.blogspot.com/2018/08/irving-t.html

I created this graphic (Fig.2) last week for my Summary #4.

Although the graphic was created with the "Shine Bright Like a Migrant..." article in mind, I believe it fits with the discussions on Days 2 & 3 because many post referenced identity being multifaceted "thousands of threads", identities we choose to be such as "academic identities, home identities, work identities, digital identities," or as Kimberly mentioned "aspects of our identity...out of control (race, gender, sexual orientation etc.)"

Instead of using threads, I used cogs mentioned in the article but I believe the essence of what we are discussing in the posts regarding identity is the same.

Just to reiterate what was on my summary/response 4: the author argues that a variety of aspects of identity (chicana feminism, queer of color critique, chicano, etc.) influenced the artist, Salgado.

  12. A page that I would sketch would be a place where it promotes positive digital identity. In other words, something that embraces not only entertainment, but education, information, and having awareness of the current matters in the world. A page that I would sketch and contribute will be an educational that not only provides core content material but contains content from all the fields where people can access many different types of information that the people would be interested in. Moreover, this would promote a diverse learning from individuals who would like to access information and for those individuals who are about to graduate from high school it would be a great option to resort to before getting into college and making a big decision on what kind of career they want to chose.

Overall, I want to sketch or contribute a page that provides digital identity through the use of entertainment, information, educating, social media, and many more, but more importantly it has to promote a fun environment that would promote critical thinking and can contribute to it so individuals can develop an identity that no one can mimic to perfection.

  13. Because my topic is focused on digital identity in relation to memes, and social activism I think a page I would create would be full of images, hashtags, video stills, and political quotes.

Each artifact on the page would fall into different categories that I have discovered through my research. I would of course define meme and what it means, because many people think memes are only pictures but it goes much farther than that so I think contextualizing this definition would be most important. That way the different examples would make sense and show readers the different ways in which memes are used to create assemblages of people who utilize Kairos and collective identity for some end product. there is an article I read that is written and put together as an interactive page that resembles twitter but its an article! It was really cool to see it written in a sort of message board format. Something like this is what I would probably do.

  15. Something that I had mentioned in days 1&2 of discussion was that a search bar would be very important for users in order to find necessary information quickly and have narrower and specific results of what they are looking for.

In addition the search bar, it should have some sort of hyperlinked area where users could easily download and link resources that match with any given topic or theme. Also, the hyperlinks could help them navigate not only to resources and information, but also to move throughout the website itself instead of having to click the back button so many times or having to go back to the main menu/home page of the website.

Images are also a major component of the website because it is what helps the users understand challenging concepts or simply understand the layout of the website and the content they are accessing. In addition to images aiding in the understanding of concepts, it also makes the website appealing to the eyes.

PS My images aren't showing up on here, so I created a New Post on the original blog page. Hopefully they show up.

  16. I would want to cover disability and share information that can help disabled people with using social media. Also share information on how social media can help disabled people. I would like it to look like the page I found below.

    https://www.ssa.gov/disabilityfacts/social-media-posts.html

At first I thought it was just site with information about social sercurity disability and social media. But the site looks like a feed that has been updated with diffrent social media sites that have posted about disability and social media.

  17. My sub-area of focus is digital identity through narrative, or storytelling. My intended audience would be educators, so I believe I would like the page to display elements of literary work (slightly laid over each other - working their way outward from the center of the page), such as a plot diagram, books, text structure components (dialogue bubbles, images, character analysis graphic organizers), etc.
Some tabs I would like to include within my page include the following:
    Identity Formation
    Digital Identity Formation
    Making Meaning Through Narrative
    Classroom Practices
My purpose would be to educate teachers and provide research-based classroom practices that can they can implement in their classrooms. It one thing to learn about concepts, and it is another to be able to take those concept into the classroom.
Digital identity through narrative functions as a way for students to think critically about their actions or purposes online. Narrative, or storytelling, would lead students to think about socio-cultural concepts and come to their own views about the world around them, which will influence their purposes in the digital world.
There are many social-cultural texts that can enrich or challenge ways of thinking, so teachers may utilize these to incite meaningful, purposeful discussions to open students’ minds about so many social-cultural concepts.
